2009 Capital Challenge to Host $40,000 North American Junior/Amateur Jumper Challenge Cup

The 2009 Capital Challenge Horse Show will take place September 26 – October 4 at the Prince George’s Equestrian Center in Upper Marlboro, MD. This year’s edition will feature the $40,000 North American Junior/Amateur Challenge Cup.

The North American Junior/Amateur Challenge Cup will feature three rounds of jumper competition in a World Cup-type format. The first round, sponsored by Heritage Farm and Kate Considine/Willow Brook Farm, is a $5,000 Time First Round class. The Time First Round format for the second round will offer $10,000 in prize money and is sponsored by Kocher Tack. The final round will hand out $25,000 in prize money and is sponsored by the Oken Family.

The height of the jumps on course will increase with each round in the North American Junior/Amateur Challenge Cup, starting at 1.35m, moving up to 1.40m, and finishing at 1.45m. Points are given in each round and after the third round the competitor with the highest point total will be named the overall winner. The winner will be awarded the Ariat Congressional Cup as well as an Antares saddle, Ariat boots and breeches, an Essex Classics show shirt and more.

Future Stars Will Shine At Capital Challenge

     Hunters will dominate both rings on Monday, September 27th at the Capital Challenge Horse Show in Upper Marlboro, MD, but it will be the outdoor arena that showcases the industry’s future stars. The Future Hunters division has been a great addition to the Capital Challenge since its introduction nine years ago. Future Hunter horses may not be flawless, but that raw talent gives us a hint of what’s to come in later professional hunter divisions.

Emerging Pro Enhanced & New Classes Added at The Capital Challenge

     Last year the Capital Challenge Horse Show offered a new event to the schedule – the Emerging Pro Challenge. The Challenge class was designed for professionals who may be knocking on a door that is typically opened by riders like Scott Stewart, Louise Serio, Peter Pletcher and a handful of other hunter riders who have graced the Show Place Arena with top scores on numerous horses.

2009 Capital Challenge Prize List Now Available

August 4, 2009 (Upper Marlboro, MD) - The management of the Capital Challenge Horse Show is pleased to announce that the prize list for the 16th annual event is available online at www.capitalchallenge.org and can be downloaded from this link. If you are not on the mailing list for this year’s prize list, it can be easily downloaded off the horse show website. Exhibitors will notice a few additions in this year’s prize list including a new Amateur-Owner 3’3” division and an enhanced Emerging Pro Division.

As always, the entries for the Capital Challenge are on a first come, first serve basis, with only a limited numbers of horses allowed in each division in order to keep the time schedule manageable. The closing date for entries is before midnight on Monday, August 17th but it is highly recommended to get entries in early.
