Future Hunters Gear Up for Wednesday’s World Championship Class

Upper Marlboro, MD – (October 3, 2005) An impressive 62 horses were entered today in the first year green working hunter division at the Capital Challenge Horse Show in Upper Marlboro, MD. Show management split the division with 31 horses competing in each of the A and B sections. Holly Orlando rode Rio Renoir to the top of both over-fence classes in section A. The six-year-old, bay gelding is owned by Thomas and Cynthia Deibert of Ottsville, Pa.

Dominating section B was Fellini ridden by Scott Stewart. The grey gelding is owned by Molly Ohrstrom of The Plains, Va. Ohrstrom’s green conformation hunter, Truly, also picked up ribbons, collecting a first and fifth with Stewart in the irons. Stewart also piloted two of Carolyn Kelly’s horses, Dynamic W and Cool Blue to a third and a sixth, respectively, in the second year green division.

The Future Hunter division kicked off today with over-fence classes in the outdoor arena. The division is divided in six sections and showcases the talent that is often seen years later winning in the green, regular working and even the junior and amateur hunter divisions. Today’s ribbon winners included Sidekick who collected blue ribbons in both over fence classes with rider Rick Fancher in the irons. Sidekick showed in the five and under section and is four-year-old brown gelding owned by Mindy Darst of Lebanon, Ohio.

The best of this year’s crop of young hunters can be seen in the Future Hunter World Championship. The top five horses from each of the six Future Hunter sections will compete in the Championship class held on Wednesday, October 5 in the Show Place Arena. The impressive prize money for the class is $20,000 plus $50 added for each entry shown.

The Capital Challenge Horse Show runs through Sunday, October 9. The $50,000 Ariat Congressional Cup Grand Prix presented by Stillwell-Hansen Inc. and Arwen Stables is the highlight of the jumper action. Held at 7:30pm on Saturday, October 8 the FEI World Cup Qualifying class is a great opportunity to witness US Equestrian Team veterans tackle a demanding course. As always, admission to the show is free and classes run in two rings throughout the day. Evening classes are held Wednesday through Saturday.
