Here is a taste of the Daily Update It is difficult to believe that 18 years has passed. People say that about their children or their horses, but it goes for Capital Challenge too. Over the years the show has grown to mean something different for everyone. It is the proving ground for young horses. It is the steppingstone for young equitation riders. It is where trainers choose to showcase a talented hunter. For some, it is the first time in an indoor arena. The Capital Challenge has become all these things and more.
Throughout the years we have come together – riders, trainers and staff – to make the show what it is. Eighteen years is a long time…long enough to witness turns in the economy, live through floods, dodge snipers, mourn the falling of the twin towers….long enough to witness future hunters become successful junior and amateur hunters, long enough to watch as pony riders turn into amateurs and even pros….long enough to see a perfect score posted on the board. Eighteen years is a lifetime to some. Most of the juniors here won’t have known the younger years of the Capital Challenge. They won’t know that the horse show office was once located in a trailer. They won’t recall Hunt Night. They might not remember when there wasn’t a Daily Update or a web site. What the Capital Challenge has always been is a place to see familiar faces you may only see once or twice a year. It is a chance to witness west coast talent in person. It offers the opportunity to catch a glimpse of the next star in the future hunters or a future grand prix rider in the THIS Medal Finals. The Capital Challenge has evolved over the past 18 years. It has changed and grown and we are proud of where it is today. Every year we strive to make the show better for our exhibitors. We’re excited for another year of stellar competition. If it is your first year, or your 18th, thanks for joining us here in Upper Marlboro. Best of luck to everyone and enjoy the show!
